We're the largest academic society the Students' Union has, handling whopping budgets and changing lives and careers every day. Any member can run for a position, and it's a real C.V. booster.
To stand you must still be an Undergraduate student here next year!
You may stand for up to two positions, but if you win the 'highest' you will be excluded from the 'lower' one.
Responsible for giving focus and direction to the biggest academic society on campus, which involves chairing meetings, delegating jobs, and having the final say on everything. Much more than something great to put on your C.V.
Organises meetings and is the point of contact for the society from the outside world. Oh, and is deputy president.
Handles the money! Makes sure that the society's spending is in line with it's budget and handles sponsorship of the society, a major part of this job.
Academic issues are at the core of the society. By teaching, and coordinating academic projects, this position is responsible for much of the society's interactions with its members. In charge of the academic support team, runs Maths Cafe/Revision Cafe and organises LaTeX classes; also jointly in charge of (with the talks coordinator) running revision groups in term 3 and crash courses throughout the year.
Maintains the society's online presence, keeping the rowdy hoards of forum people from blowing the website up. More seriously, they look after the day to day issues on the website, and keep the content fresh and relevant.
Responsible for convening talks in all their forms throughout the year: be they Discussion Groups (drawing from a pool of PhD students and enthusiastic members), Careers groups (working with companies and alumni to provide real insight into maths related careers) or Discussion groups specials (hunting down professional mathematicians with something to say). Also jointly in charge of (with academic support) running revision groups in term 3 and crash courses throughout the year.
Responsible for producing the society's termly magazine, the Mathemagician. A tough, but very rewarding job (you get to make something shiny).
Responsible for writing and editing the society's revision guides, as well as sending them to the printers and co-ordinating sales with publicity. Perhaps not quite as tough as magazine editor, but just as rewarding.
In charge of the publicity team, and has overall responsibility for the general publicity of the society, in all its forms.
No real note taking for this one, but they get organise all the socials, unsurprisingly. This involves lots of organising - food, drink, venues, theme, anything else you can think of, and being present at the event to make sure none of the lecturers steal our food.
