Our Treasurer has tried to send an invite by e-mail, but hasn't been getting any replies, so I thought posting the invite here in the same manner as last year would be a good idea (last year a thread was used to organise transport and suchlike).

Thanks, Robert (Archimedeans Secretary)

Hi,

The Archimedeans (Cambridge Maths Society) would like to invite you to our Problems Drive which will take place on Sunday 2nd March. We hope you will be able to come to Cambridge in time for Lunch. The actual Problems Drive will take place at 2pm.

The problems drive consists of a dozen short questions, and will last for about an hour overall. It is done in pairs, although you can find a partner here on the day. There will of course be refreshments and prizes for the best, worst and funniest answers! The questions from last year's problems drive are available at:
http://www.archim.org.uk/docs/problemsdrive07

Hope to see you soon,

Thanks,

Robert

Oh this sounds cool, might have to see if I can go this year. Out of interest, what email address have you been sending stuff to?

This was fun last year so I'll probably go as well.

Does look pretty cool, I might email a mate at Cambridge about this. BTW which sadist came up with question 1?

We could do with another toaster/set of wooden spoons in our house, I might go.

I used the web-based feedback system to invite the Warwick Maths society to the problems drive, though it clearly didn't work. I couldn't find an email address anywhere on the website.

Couple of minor questions people: How are we getting there? and have we informed people who don't always read these forums?

I was going to ask that as well. I guess the train is our best bet if no one is driving there.

P.S. I doubt a lot of people who don't read the forums would be willing to go.

I'm up for it, when do we start organising how to get there then ? (Train is fine by me)

Dear Warwick Maths,

We will be having lunch before the problems drive at the Castle Inn on Castle Street at 1245. If you could let us know when you plan to arrive, and how, we could arrange to meet you and take you there.

Hope to see you tomorrow.

Regards,

Archimedeans

Just checked the train times and they're not that great: the first one is at 9:30 and gets there at 1 PM with two changes. It goes through Euston and then from King's Cross to Cambridge; the minimum fare seems to be around 40 pounds (for a return ticket).

National Express seems comparatively reasonable: 08:30 to 12:25 with a 75 min wait in Milton Keynes for about 20 pounds (return as well).

If anyone has any other ideas, feel free to post them.

Right, I just got a coach ticket for 8:30 tomorrow, leaving from Cov Pool Meadow and getting there at 12:25, with a 18:40 return.

Is anyone else still coming?
(if so you should probably book a ticket as well - you can probably buy one from there but it's probably going to be more expensive)

I might still come, how much was the ticket ? (And does the coach you're taking go past campus by any chance ?) (I'm looking on the website but's it's always better to have a direct answer :p)

Edit : All right, found what you chose, £20, but having to be at Coventry at 8:30 is a bit scary :p
(And I can't book a ticket online as my credit card was eaten by an ATM near Tesco yesterday :|)

Could be about the same price if you buy it tomorrow morning from the coach seeing as it's only one day before the trip. It's up to you though, I'm meeting my cousin there so I don't mind going alone.

Could I come round tonight or something ? Would make it less painful to get up in time (plus I've got something to give to CJ)

Yeah, sure. There's no bus from campus before 10 tomorrow anyhow.

This something to give me better not be a whooping on Brawl (although if you get it to work on my console, you deserve a million internets)

Heh, the problems drive was great fun, too bad Cosmin and I had to struggle with buses to get there and back though.
And we didn't finish last ! :p

(Oh and CJ, I think I might know how to fix your Brawl, I'll have to talk to you about it :o)
