Just wondering if anyone knows about lecture notes for Calculus of Variations. The only set I can find on MathStuff is from 98/99 - is this pretty much the same syllabus as now? Cheers. |

I think you may mean 'variational principles' old thing, 'calculus of variations' is a fourth year module with no notes online. I've had a look through the 98/99 V.P. notes and I'm not entirely convinced by their ledgibility, plus there's been a lecturer change for this module since. Chances are though that because it's pretty light on content, the syllabus won't have changed much: If you can learn from those notes, then I'd say go for it; but for clarity's sake I might try and get some notes from someone else who's done the course (any volunteers!?). In the unlikely event that you were actually looking for C.V. notes, I'm afraid I'll have to let you down and say that there are no official notes, though the course is entirely ripped from Bernard Dacorogna's "Introduction to the calculus of variations", which is pretty cheap (for a maths book), and pretty widely available. |
