To the uninitiated: last year we ran, to mixed success, a series of informal revision talks for first and second years called revision groups.

This year we want to make them better and we want you to tell us now. Post and spread the word or join us at 5 this friday in the undergrad common room.

The most important thing for me is that we get a feel for the techniques that we will need in the exams. If by now people don't understand "why we do this" and "why we do that", then they are unlikely to have that understanding after a short revision group. So I think it's best to try and help people to prepare for the exams, by telling them "if you need to show this or find that, then do this". And of course recapping the definitions and theorems. I think the core modules are a must. Also, although I don't study it myself, I think Combinatorics definitely needs a revision class because the module has been changed so there aren't any lecture notes around. Same goes for Algebra II.

Seems like a great idea to me! Personally, I think that the following from the list of suggestions would be of most use: "A heuristic walk through the subject matter ("this basically means that")?" and "A feel for the techniques ("if you get a proof with an epsilon use...")?"

The two particular modules that I, and most people that I speak to, have difficulty with are Analysis, and Geometry & Motion - especially Analysis.

Hasn't the Combinatorics exam kinda happened already?

I definitely agree with the first bit though, trying to explain the underlying principles of the course may not be that useful. We need examples!

I personally would like a differentiation revision session. Would anyone else find it useful tho?

as long as it is not simply a regurgitation of the (very good) crash course, I would most certainly attend.

Almost exactly what JB said.
