Snowboarding/Skiing next Thursday

Me and CJ were thinking about going to an indoor ski slope (Xscape) in Milton Keynes next Thursday (the 13th) for the afternoon. It's pretty cool (real snow, not a dry slope, kickers, rails, etc.) and not too expensive (about 30 pounds for 4 hours, 7-11, including board/boots/skis) and quite close (only 50 mins by coach). Is anyone else interested? We could get a group booking and it'll be even cheaper I think.

P.S. Sam and Chris said they were interested as well, so that's 4 of us for the moment.

Oooh dear, last time I tried anything like that I fell over so many times that I could barely walk the next day. Problem is my balance is so bad I can't even stand on a stationary skateboard.

I'm up to it a priori, but I still have to check I have the money :p
I'll confirm that tomorrow I presume...
Great idea nonetheless.

(Look forward to skiing at home, here's how it looked today)

Yeah that sounds great, I could do with a little practice before my family skiing trip at Easter.

I might even get my Mum to bring my blades (short skis) down.

Just wondering... is Tamworth not closer for your ski-trip? x

There is closer and there is closer by available transport.

It is, but not by too much. It doesn't look as good though (less jumps and rails) and it's a bit more expensive (I also didn't know about it :P).

P.S. We should probably think about booking the coach tickets and session soon.

Well Cosmin it's up to you, if it's indeed £30/£35 I'm up for it, though when checking on the site I saw £50 which is more than I can afford at the moment.

It's definetly at most £35 and should be less with student discounts (though I don't think you can get any if you book online - they're probably no more than £5 anyway). I assume £50 was the standard rate for 4 hours but this is the Thursday "Freestyle Night" 4-hour session so it's cheaper.

Update: I just booked my session for 35 pounds, starting at 7 PM thursday. One thing about the transport though, I just realised train is much better: it's just as cheap, takes only 35 mins and the station is 5 mins away from the slope (as opposed to the 45 min walk from the middle-of-nowhere coachway). I'm thinking of leaving around 4-5 PM so I can mess around xscape (trying out electronic drums and guitars at sound control = win :p) and still be there about 30 or so mins before it starts so that I can get proper equipment without too much hassle.

So where are you getting the train then ?

Coventry railway station, it's only about 15 mins from where I live. We could meet up around there (or here) at 4-5 or something like that. I'm thinking either 15:52->16:24 or 16:50->17:22 to get there and probably 00:18->01:33 to get back.

Yes, meeting up at your place seems a good idea as I know where that is precisely. I think I'll come after my 2-3pm lecture if that's all right (it leaves the time to have a few brawl matches :p). Have you booked any trains ?

  • Cough * Excursions 3-5 * Cough *

Looks like you may need a sick note.

Edit: Also ppls on campus may find it a lil difficult getting a bus at 1:40 from Cov.

Yes well that's a problem, that's why I wasn't really thinking of going back on campus that night, but whatever, it sure is a bit annoying...

There's no real need to book a train, should be ok just buying the ticket from the station (it's pretty much the same for the session but I thought I'd book it anyway - it's perfectly fine if you don't though).

I guess I'll go to the excursions presentations from about 3-4 and head back directly to the train station for the 4:50 train. You can probably sleep on the floor at our place if you don't wanna go back to campus afterwards I guess. (it's not that hard to get back though, I've done it about 4 times last year coming back from gigs after 1 AM) :P

Any idea if Chris is still up for it? I'll see him tomorrow in excursions anyway I guess, but it would be good to know.

Just got back, it was awesome, lots of jumps, rails and general fun. (the only thing which sucked was me getting the wrong train ticket and having to buy a second one)
It's too bad Sam and I were the only ones to go though. I'll probably end up going next term as well and hopefully more people will turn up if it's properly organised and I tell them more than one week in advance. :P

Yeah, it was great, I'm not a great jump/rail fan but it was fun, did quite a few nice jumps.
(For me, the only thing which sucked is not having gloves, as my hands litterally transformed into ice after a while)
