I'm up for it, as usual. The booking schedule seems quite empty lately so it should be pretty easy to get a good slot (I should normally have some booking credits but they're not yet showing on the website). It'd probably be a good idea to think of two or three songs to play in advance though. :p

I've booked it but it might be 5-7, I'm not exactly sure. We should probably still try getting there at 4 in case it's not, no one has booked the slot before. Is anyone else coming? Also, any song preferences?

hopefully cj on bass, also can alex play guitar?? if not then someone else or we could just play as a trio again. I reckon we can nail hey joe pretty well, and maybe some led zep II, they're quite easy to play. we should also start writing our own stuff sometime.

With me playing guitar, the sound the guitar makes and the sound I intended it to make are separate things. I'll be down as a no. I haven't got the time or patience or guitar nowadays.

I'll be up for that :) I'm so tempted to bring my (soon to be obtained) turntable to a practise session sometime, get some Pendulum style sounds going with decks and guitars

Cool. We could also try some Floyd and Cream (quite fun to play, eg. White Room, Sunshine of Your Love, etc.) and other stuff like that. We could do some improvised jams as well and should definetly try to write some stuff too.

Let's do it again, this time let's play some S.O.A.D. (preferably suite-pee or sugar- so much fun to play!!)- if you don't have it, learn it off Deezer .

yeah it was fun. i also reckon some flaming lips would be pretty cool. I can also play born to be wild which is always a bit of a laugh.

I'm all over this if we start playing some flaming lips, although how well it'll work in a traditional 2 guitar 1 bass 1 drumkit setting remains to be seen...

I think it's probably doable if you give one of the guitars the synth/keyboard stuff and mess around with two rhythm guitars in some places. It'd definetly be interesting to see the results (though for it to sound close you would need quite a few pedals I expect :p). Any specific songs in mind?

I'd suspect that some of the older stuff might be better, She Don't Use Jelly would be awesome and wouldn't be that heavy on my little Zoom 707-II pedal, and of course something like Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Part 1 or Ego Tripping At The Gates Of Hell could be doable with some clever pedal trickery...

There's an electronics store in Cannon park, you might be able to get a cheap one there (or maybe even in Tescos).

got a complete band? Pres of bandsoc and 2008 BOTB winner here!
Just so you know, the reason we don't offer mics is because they get nicked! It's bad enough people stealing kettle leads etc. (why o why would anyone steal a kettle lead....?)
However, with the new build we're hoping to have better security (i.e. records and possibly cctv of who's going in and out, which means we can then offer mics :)

I think Cosmin is keen on doing it after the exams especially if the practice room on campus is avaliable. I'm pretty much free any time, so whatever is fine with everyone else. If we do have a bit of time though, we could suggest songs to try and learn. I'd be up for some Pink Floyd or Rage.

Yeah, I figure it would be a lot easier with the practice room on campus. That said, if you guys are up for it we can do something before the exams as well, it's just that our options are fairly reduced at the moment. The room bandsoc are using as a substitute is in Leam and it's £10 with a 25% discount if we book 3 or more hours before 6pm, which isn't as cheap as the campus one used to be (£5 or £6 per 2 hour slot), but they do seem to have pretty good equipment. In any case, there should be something on campus by the time our exams finish (I think) and I'll have more time so we can definetly do it at that point if everyone is still around and up for it. What do you guys think?

P.S. I'll post a few songs as well later on.

trying to think of songs we can jam with and mess around a bit, some suggestions:

marvin gaye - let's get it on
bob marley - stir it up
black sabbath - into the void
hendrix - hear my train coming
the goldfinger version of 99 red balloons

any other ideas?

Sounds good, even though I don't know any of them. Also I wouldn't mind Superstition by Stevie Wonder and Boom boom by John Lee Hooker (pretty cliched I know but its fun to jam on).

My exams are finished so I'm free whenever, it's up to you guys (there's still no campus practice room though so we're stuck with Leam unless we can find a better alternative). A few songs we could try out, assuming we're going with the two guitars, bass & drums set up:

  • Some Pink Floyd songs would be quite nice, even though they'd soud a bit different without the keys. A few I'd like to try: Time, Shine On, Comfortably Numb, Money, Another Brick in the Wall for example could work and are quite fun.
  • A few Hendrix songs work well with a rhythm guitar: All Along the Watchtower, Hey Joe, possibly Little Wing, Red House.
  • Some Cream songs would be sweet (and not very hard to adapt to this format), e.g. White Room, Badge, Sunshine, etc.
  • We could try a few easy standards, stuff like Autumn Leaves, Blue in Green, Mr. PC (slowed down :P) (or any other blues really), Summertime, Solar, Cantaloupe Island, etc.

I'll add more to the list later on. In any case I'll play pretty much anything (correction: try to play :P).

Next Tuesday any time after 3:30 (if anyone actually wants to practice that day) is good for me. I'll probably be a little rusty and won't have much time to learn songs but I'll see what I can do.

Are we still doing this? If we agree on a time/date I can phone the place in Leam and book a practice. I'm pretty much free every day this week, after that it becomes slightly trickier (but still possible) since I suppose I'll be pretty busy around the end of the week and there's the BBQ on Wednesday, etc.

I do still really want to do this at some point this term, I'm free at any point pretty much so you'll have to check with Richard and Sam, but I still think it might be possible to do it at some point this week.

Ok, managed to book something for tomorrow 4-6 PM here in Leam since Callan, Sam and I agreed that this was more or less the last day we could all make it. Hope that's OK for you as well Richard. We should probably meet somewhere in Leam around 3:30 or so, possibly around the bottom of the parade since it seems pretty close to that.

That's a bit too slow, we should do this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm8HUqRSfHY

But otherwise some easier stuff that I'd like to play:

Cream: White Room, like this for example: http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/gingerbakerwhite.mov, Badge.

Hey Joe, Purple Haze, Little Wing by Hendrix

Pink Floyd: Time, Money, could try Another Brick in the Wall as well.

These are some songs that I know quite well on bass that are really easy to learn, try a few that you like I guess. I don't mind too much, I'm open to playing anything else and could just improvise from the chords (the results may vary in quality though :P). Any other ideas I should check out?

Hey, is anyone free to do this at any point this term? Looking at the bandsoc website: http://www.bandsoc.co.uk/ they seem to have a practice room this term.

(Also we should play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crbp8I2l3zs :p)
