It turns out that when the midpoint of a pendulum is made to oscillate up and down, the pendulum has a stable fixed point at the top.
If this isn't cool enough, we will explore the solutions to the equation of motion, which have some interesting properties.
As a little taster, this gives insight into a group of matrices, which are homeomorphic to (aka "have the same shape as") an interesting 3D object... which we will then open up, and explore the
filling!

As usual for Monday Discussion Groups, this topic should be accessible to everyone including first years.

When Kevin Crooks is done showing us how the space of some matrices looks like in detail, we head off to the pub! Simple as that.
