Discussion Groups

One of our new innovations for the 2006/7 academic year, our discussion groups will be a series of student-led talks or seminars on a whole range of interesting topics.

Here's how it's all going to work:

  • One or two students will offer to lead one of the talks, and if the topic is approved by the Society then we'll put them in touch with a member of staff to help them out.
  • The group leaders are entirely free to teach in any style they wish, they could lecture, or give out workbooks or find some innovative way to explain their chosen ideas.
  • The discussion group will actually take place and last between roughly 60 and 90 minutes.

Th material covered in these groups should be suitable for a second year undergraduate but they are open to all years, including postgraduate. We see them not as doing 'harder' than normal mathematics, but as demonstrating some of the more interesting areas of mathematics that may not be lectured at Warwick.

We are currently on course to start the groups in week 3 of term 1, when we have more details will post an event to our pages.
