Academic Stuff

WMS gives strong academic support to its members. Currently we provide revision guides, unofficial supervisions, $ \LaTeX $ classes, hold discussion groups, careers talks, co-ordinate module feedback and operate a book review and exchange section.

The Society is driven by what it's members want and you are a member, and you want something, use the contact form to let us know.

Resources list

A list of revision resources for Term 3 2013 can be found at tinyurl.com/WMSRevision2013 - whenever dates/times for revision events are confirmed or resources are added, they will be added here and emails/ Facebook messages will go out.

Learn LaTeX

We run a learning $ \LaTeX $ course in the autumn term, and have an accompanying course on the website. If you don't know, $ \LaTeX $ is the way to typeset mathematics, it's extremely powerful and very flexible. Have a read, come along or help out.

Discussion Groups

The WMS runs a series of what we like to call discussion groups, these are relaxed informal seminar type lectures, sort of. Anyone can turn up and just learn some interesting mathematics. The topics discussed are varied, and completely up to the participants, if you want to give a talk on something, you can!

Maths Cafe

Every Wednesday during terms 1 and 2, in the Mathematics common room we have a drop in help session. As we also provide free drinks and snacks, we like to call it Maths Cafe. Bring along your assignment sheets, or any mathematics that you might be struggling with, and we'll have a look through it and help you to work out the solutions. In term 3, this becomes twice a week.

Revision Guides and Lecture Notes

WMS maintains a number of revision guides and collections of Lecture Notes produced by our members. Every year we give our members a paper copy our revision guides for free. Members can also access the revision guides and lecture notes online, in PDF, to get to them, view the Module Guide page

Second Year Essay Database

The WMS holds a database of second year essays to complement the somewhat ageing list available on mathstuff. Useful for anyone that is at a loss about what the department might expect.
